Elizabeth Gray (Liz) has been involved with Athletics for nearly 50 years, competing in Little Athletics from the age of five. Liz specialised in middle-distance events, particularly the 800m. As a Junior, Liz won numerous national titles, medaled regularly at national level in both the 800m and 1500m and held many Victorian State Records.
Liz commenced coaching at Caulfield Grammar & Presbyterian Ladies College in Melbourne and then formed her own private squad. This squad was successful at a state level in Victoria and Liz coached one of her members to a national medal and state records in the 800m.
After relocating to Tasmania in 2015, Liz has been developing her training squad; coaching all levels and abilities from school-based athletes to high performance. Based in Launceston, Liz is currently coaching approximately 20 athletes regularly for both Track and Cross-Country events.
Liz’s squad has achieved a great deal of success during this time, winning a plethora of state titles, selection to state teams, breaking state and centre records, with several athletes achieving top 5 placings at national level. This includes current TIS Scholarship athlete Alexander Creak who holds national and state records in the 400m.
In 2021, Liz had her first athlete selected to an Australian team, Alexander Creak, for the U20 World Championships in the 4 x 400m relay. Unfortunately, the team did not travel overseas due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Liz holds a Level 2 Club Coach and Level 2 Recreational Running and is currently completing the Athletics Australia Performance Development Coach Level 3 Course.
