The TIS features three finalists in the Jayco Australian Cyclist of the Year Awards, with TIS Head Cycling Coach Matthew Gilmore nominated for the 'SBS Television' Coach of the Year and athletes Ryan Hughes (Elite Male Para-cyclist of the Year) and Amy Cure (Junior Female Track Cyclist of the Year and Junior Female Road Cyclist of the Year) nominated.

NEWS: 2010 PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES LIST

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the 2010 Prohibited List which will come into effect on 1 January 2010. The Prohibited List is an international standard that outlines the substances and methods that are prohibited in sport.
All athletes, coaches and support personelle are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new Prohibited List to ensure atheltes are ready for the change on 1 January 2010. To view a summary of significant changes please view the summary document.
GUEST ASSISTS AUSTRALIA TO 5 TEST WIN

The Australian Men's Hockey Team played a five test series against Malaysia, with Tassie David Guest in the mix, scoring a Penalty Corner goal in the first match. Australia won the series with three wins and two draws, winning games one (3 - 1), two (5 - 1) and four (3 - 1) and drawing games three (3 - 3) and five (2 - 2).

Angus Barton finished fourth in the Laser Radial Class of the Sail Sandy Regatta over the weekend, held at the Sandringham Yacht Club in Victoria.
SAILORS WIN INTERDOMINION

Sailing scholarship holders Elliot Noye, George Jones and Rohan Langford skippered for the Hutchins School to win the 2009 Interdominion Teams Racing Championship. They are the first Australian team to win since 1996 and it is the first time Hutchins has won the event.
BARTON WINS NSW CHAMPIONSHIPS

Young sailing athlete Angus Barton won the Intermediate Single Fleet race at the NSW Youth Sailing Championships held at Georges River Sailing Club in Sydney. Fellow TIS sailor Zac Pullen finished 12th in the same race.
ALLSTON TAKES MELBOURNE MARATHON BY STORM

Orienteering scholarship holder Johanna 'Hanny' Allston ran in the Melbourne Half Marathon, winning the race in a time of 75m3s.
PORTE SIGNS PRO CONTRACT

After some fantastic results in Europe this year, including winning the time trial of the Baby Giro (Under 27 Tour of Italy), Richie Porte signed a pro contract with the Danish team - Saxo Bank.

In the Caterpillar 2009 Tour of Tasmania, TIS cyclist Bernard Sulzberger beat NSW cyclist Peter McDonald and WA cyclist Luke Durbridge to gain the top spot on the podium.

At the Victorian Open, held at Monash University, Priscus Fogagnolo won the Men's 90kg and Stephanie Grant won Women's 78kg and the Combined Women's 78kg.

Squash athlete Aaron Frankcomb assisted the Australian team to win the World Men's Team Championships in Denmark by winning both of his knock out rounds. Aaron defeated Ireland athlete Rene Mijs and also defeated Wales athlete Nic Birt..
PEACOCK DOMINATES AUST GAMES

Track and Field athlete Hamish Peacock won the Javelin at the Australian University Games, held on Australia's Gold Coast. Hamish threw 68.53m to claim the title. Hamish also finished 3rd in the Discus.

Katelyn Brooks, Tayla Roberts and Matthew Brazendale were all called upon for an Austarlian Development Camp at the AIS later this month. Unfortunately Brazendale was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury.
ROBERTS THRIVES IN AUS/KIWI CLASH

Young basketballer Tayla Roberts gave a top performance for the Australian Under 17 side, defeating New Zealand in each match of a three game series. The Australian side therefore qualified for the 2010 World Championships. Tayla scored 14 points, 12 points and 13 points respectively in the three matches.
OCKENDEN SCORES IN SAMOA SMASHING

World player of the year Eddie Ockenden contributed to the Kookaburras smashing of Samoa at the Oceania Hockey World Cup Qualifier (NZ). Eddie scored in the 26-0, assisting Australia to win the Oceania tournament in New Zealand to qualify them for a place in the Hero Honda FIH 2010 World Cup.

Tristan Thomas ran the third leg in the 4 x 400m relay to assist the Australian relay team to bronze at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin. Tristan is the first Tasmanian to win a medal at an Athletics World Championships.

Tasmanian Sailors competed at the Laser Radial World Championships in Karatsu, Japan with success. George Jones finished 13th in the Gold Fleet, with Elliot Noye finishing 42nd and Rohan Langford finished 12th in the Silver Fleet, with Angus Barton finishing close behind in 15th.

Swimmer Karl Wurzer competed at the National Short Course titles in Hobart, gaining a bronze medal in the 100m Breastroke final, and also finished fourth in the 200m Breastroke final and 50m Breastroke final.
