Two Athletes Inducted into TIS Champions Club

On Friday 26 August at the TIS Scholarship Announcements breakfast, two athletes were inducted into the TIS Champions Club. Amy Cure, Cycling and Kerry Hore, Rowing joined us on the morning to be recognised for their illustrious careers.

The Champions Club was established in 2006 to recognise athletes who have held a TIS Scholarship for more than five years and achieved exceptional performances on the international stage in their chosen sport. Outstanding performances such as a medallist at the Olympics, World Championships or Commonwealth Games may be considered for inclusion into the TIS Champions Club. To be considered for inclusion an athlete must be retired from international level competition and seen to have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and conduct throughout their sporting career.

This year we recognised the illustrious careers of Cyclist Amy Cure and Rower Kerry Hore, it was an honour to have both ladies in the room to chat about their careers & those who inspired and helped them along the way.

Amy Cure is a three-time World Champion, four-time Junior World Champion, Commonwealth Games Medallist and Olympian. Amy had an incredible cycling career and was part of the Tasmanian Institute of Sport since first receiving a high performance scholarship in 2008 until her retirement in 2020. Amy compiled an amazing record on the international stage that will have her spoken about as one of Australia’s greatest ever female track cyclists.

Kerry Hore became the first Australian female rower to compete at four Olympic Games when she was selected for the Australian team to compete at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Kerry held a Tasmanian Institute Sport high performance scholarship for 17 years from 2000, until her retirement in 2016. Hailing from the Huon Rowing Club, Kerry won World Championships, World Cups and medalled at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
