Talent Identification

Could you be a world class athlete?

The TIS is on the lookout for our future Tasmanian Olympic and Paralympic champions. Talented Tasmanians between the ages of 14-20 (as of 31st December 2026) are invited to be part of the TALENT ID FOR 2032 project in preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The TALENT ID FOR 2032 project aims to identify athletes with the potential physical, physiological and mental capabilities that will help them become Olympic and Paralympic champions. The range of tests used to identify these characteristics vary from the classic beep test, to a 20m sprint and vertical jump, as well as sport-specific tests to help match you to your most suited sport. You may even be matched to a sport that is completely new to you!

Frequently Asked Questions

My child can’t make the testing dates listed.

The testing dates for 2026 are locked in. Testing will run again at the same time next year (April school holidays) if they wish to be involved then. Also if they are unable to make a specific regional date, then they are welcome to register and travel for another of the dates around the state. (i.e. they can’t make the Launceston day, then they can still register for the Ulverstone or Hobart date).

My child is outside the cut off age.

If you don’t fall within the age range for the Talent ID for 2032 program, you won’t be eligible for selection through the program. Testing will run again at the same time next year (April school holidays), and each year after that. They will be able to register and participate when they become age-eligible if the wish to be involved then.

What sports are you testing for the program?

Currently our supported sports programs are the only sports we are covering for the Talent ID for 2032 program. If you wish to be considered for Athletics, Cycling, Rowing, Hockey, Sailing, or Canoe Slalom then this is the program for you. Applications for other sports will be via our Individual Support Program application: https://tasmanianinstituteofsport-2.snapforms.com.au/form/tis-app-003-individual-support

Does it cost anything to register/participate in the program?

No. Everything is free!

What happens after the testing?

It will take approximately 6 weeks post-testing to receive your results and advise of the next steps of the program. For some people, this may be an invitation to an extra testing session. For others this may be a direct offer into the program depending on the sport.

Do I have to give up other sports I am currently competing in to do this program?

No. We encourage all our participants to continue in the sport pathways they are doing for other sports. The Talent ID for 2032 program would be an additional opportunity.
